Carbon Steel Overview:

Carbon steel is sometimes referred to as steel which is not stainless steel. Carbon steel is steel with carbon content up to 2.1% by weight. As the carbon percentage content inside increases, steel has the ability to get harder and stronger by means of heat treating, but it will become less resilient. Despite the heat treatment, higher carbon content could reduce weldability and lower the melting point.

In most cases, carbon steel balls or steel balls are used in many aspects. It is usually black on the outside but it is in fact slightly silver inside. However, compared to stainless steel, carbon steel balls/hemispheres are easily corroded and should be placed in dry and ventilated area if it is to remain intact.

Low-carbon steel

Ultra-high-carbon steel

Approximately 3.25–4.0% carbon content. Steels that can be tempered to great hardness. Used for special purposes like (non-industrial-purpose) knives, axles or punches. Most steels with more than 2.5% carbon content are made using powder metallurgy.
