Auckland Art Fair Coming to Viaduct Events Centre

A city surrounded by harbours, Auckland offers a marvelous list of things to do on water, off the water and by the water. Auckland was known to have the largest Maori tribe in the whole of New Zealand, giving it an added ethnic and cultural feel.

Take a peek behind the cosmopolitan veneer and appreciate the unique history of this city by visiting the many art galleries and museums. The APE-X Jewellery Sculpture Studio offers some intricate Maori inspired gold and silver work. One of the most poignant collections of contemporary and historic art can be found in the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki. During your island hopping make sure to visit Bodyscape on Waiheke Island. Featuring female bronze body sculptures, the artist Olivier Duhamel allows visitors to also come and see his workshop during a visit. Kura Contemporary Ethnic Art, Off the Beach Gallery, Sanderson Contemporary Art, Te Taumata Art Gallery and The Kauri Museum are also worth visiting.

At Auckland's latest entertainment venue, the Viaduct Events Centre, the Auckland Art Fair 2011 is set to take stage on August 4th to the 7th. Over a 1000 pieces of art will be displayed from Australia's and New Zealand's leading art galleries. From sculptures to oil paintings and iron works from over 600 individuals will be displayed in the state of the art waterfront entertainment venue in Auckland.

Artist floor talks, walk through with artists themselves, forums and hospitality events will all roll in to create an exciting event in the cultural calendar in Auckland. The 2009 fair attracted over 10,000 people, and 2011 is set to be even bigger and better. A 5 minute walk from downtown Auckland, the admission to the fair is free, making it that much more enticing. Not only is the work on display but art connoisseurs will rejoice in the knowledge that many if not all the pieces are also available for purchase. The biennial fair is possibly the only forum where some of the best and brightest from New Zealand and Australia are placed on one platform.
