Step 1: Prepare stainless steel sheet.
To make a stainless steel ball, we should first calculate stainless steel sheet in need. There are two major methods in producing stainless steel hollow spheres. For larger spheres of over 400mm, stainless steel sheet will be cut, shaped and welded in the shape similar to a ball after calculation of sheet. In this way, we will have crude balls. For smaller spheres, please see the following procedure.
Step 2: Pressuring.
After the previous procedure, what we have isn’t technically a round hollow ball but an angular ball-like product. For smaller-size hollow stainless steel balls, they are flat stainless steel sheet and then shaped and punched into a half-sphere mechanically. For large stainless steel balls for more than 400mm, they are shaped by special machine which pumps gallons of water inside through a open hole on the ball, slowly turning it round due to water pressure. However, a ball will not be flat on the surface but will become afterwards. While pumping, a ball will be placed on a large pool of sand. A ball will be pumped and rolled on the sand and become flat on the surface eventually.
Step 3: Polishing.
After we finish pressure, we will get an almost-round and flat stainless steel sphere. Afterwards, it will be polished for several times and cleaned by using polishing machine and polishing wax, but most importantly efforts from professional workers.
Step 4: Plating.
At
last, because a stainless steel hollow ball will be plated inside a
processing tank with paint, it is therefore drilled with one or two
holes and hung inside the tank. It will be plated and dried after.
